KU Med Westwood Campus
The KU Med Westwood Campus is home to the Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Care Pavilion. Established in 2007, the Cancer Center provides outpatient care and treatment to cancer patients. The center offers private treatment areas, on-site laboratory and radiology services, and a patient resource center staffed by an experienced oncology nurse. But it doesn’t end with the services provided by the facility. The facility and grounds also add to the healing atmosphere of the center. The building boasts natural light, commissioned art and plenty of seating areas for families and patients to wait and visit with physicians.
“The environment provides a sense of hope, a sense of growth,” said Chris Delaney, Service Operations Manager for the Westwood Campus. “The landscaping helps create the atmosphere we hope to provide for our patients.”
“It is very important to hospital leaders that this doesn’t look like an institution, and the landscaping is a big part of that,” said Dennis McCullough, Director of Public and Government Relations. “We value the fact that the exterior blends with the interior’s healing power through the natural light,” McCullough adds.
Nestled on the south side of the building is the Garden of Infinite Possibilities. A quiet, peaceful garden with flowers, trees, shrubs and benches, it offers an area for patients and their families to reflect. “It functions as a chapel to walk, sit and reflect for our patients, their families, and our staff,” McCullough said. “The garden makes the atmosphere. It provides a place to meditate” adds Delaney.
In addition to patient care, the facility houses clinical trials for cancer research. KU Med has its National Cancer Institute designation, which attracts the best doctors in the country to our area. The facility is also home to an after-hours urgent care clinic, outpatient blood and marrow transplant program, as well as physicians’ offices. The east side of the building houses all 600 employees of the hospital’s administrative staff.
The Westwood Campus takes pride in being part of such a great neighborhood. Across Shawnee Mission Parkway is the Mission Hills Country Club golf course. “We hold our own with any golf course when it comes to the landscaping,” McCullough said.
Brian Cox is Signature’s dedicated Account Manager to this property. Brian visits the property regularly to stay ahead of any landscaping issues and ensure all expectations are being met. The facility is the former Sprint World Headquarters. Because of the high standards that Sprint had set for the building, KU Med has embraced the opportunity to keep and exceed those standards. “We are very fortunate that Sprint maintained the building so well for so many years for the neighborhood. Signature has been great to help us maintain that,” said McCullough.
