Ben’s involvement in grounds maintenance began in elementary school when he started mowing lawns in his neighborhood, and by high school had built a full-fledged lawn care business. In addition to his lawn care business, Ben waited on tables, cooked, and had a paper route which all helped put him through college.

In 1988, after graduating from a small culinary arts school, and obtaining a bachelor’s degree in general studies with a focus on interpersonal relationships from Northeast Louisiana University, Ben moved to Kansas City. He co-founded Nigro & Boyd Landscape, Inc. Ben’s company eventually merged with another, which he later sold.

In 2008, Ben’s friendship with Signature’s founder, Bill Gordon, led him to manage Signature’s North Branch. In 2019 Ben was promoted to Vice President of Operations. Ben is responsible for all of Signature’s new business, account management, production management, and operations.

Ben strives to develop a culture of high-energy, focused learning, professional development, integrity, safety, teamwork, and humor. There are few joys in Ben’s life equal to having the opportunity to participate in the development of those on Signature’s team, and to grow right alongside them.

Ben enjoys cooking. He grew up in Louisiana, where, at age five his father started him in the kitchen by having him stir roux for gumbos. A few of his best dishes are his cinnamon rolls, oatmeal raisin cookies, chicken and dumplings, seafood gumbo, red beans and rice, and crawfish etouffee. Ben married his best friend Dana in 1987. Ben and Dana live in Kansas City’s midtown, and have three children, Benjamin, Bethany, and Audra, and three grandchildren, Hazel, June, and Isabel.
