Joe has spent the majority of his life involved in the landscaping industry, starting with his first job in grade school mowing lawns with his best friend (also named Joe). From Joe & Joe’s Lawn Pro, Joe continued his career in horticulture and turf maintenance and has more than two decades of formal industry experience.

He moved on from mowing lawns to managing turf for golf courses. After high school and during his college years, he worked at St. Andrew’s Golf Course in Overland Park in the turf care department. It was great hands-on experience while he earned his degree in golf course management from Kansas State University. While he studied horticulture at K-State he did internships at Augusta National, home of the Masters golf tournament, and Kelly Plantation Golf Club in Destin, FL.

After graduating from K-State, Joe had offers from both Augusta National and Kelly Plantation to join their turf care teams full time. Joe chose the Sunshine State over the Peach State and moved to the beach to take on the role of Assistant Superintendent at Kelly Plantation Golf Club. After a few years at the beach and multiple hurricanes, he and his wife decided to move back home to Kansas City. “Shoveling snow out of your driveway is a lot easier than shoveling white sand!” says Joe.

Upon his return to Kansas City, Joe began working as a Production Manager for a commercial landscaping company. After three years at that company, Joe joined Signature and has been with the company since 2008. As an Account Manager, Joe is responsible for working daily with his clients, mentoring new Account Managers and managing the Turf Applications Department.

Joe’s philosophy for how he approaches his work is based on accountability. He believes in setting an example for others to follow by taking initiative and responsibility for outcomes, whether good or bad. Joe enjoys the relationships he’s built with clients and fellow co-workers from day one. He considers himself fortunate to still have some of the same client relationships he had from his first day at Signature.

Joe and his wife Sarah (also a proud K-State Wildcat) live in Olathe with their two daughters, Mackenzie and Harper, plus another daughter who arrived in July 2019. On the rare occasion Joe isn’t running the girls to soccer, gymnastics or basketball practice, and does get a spare moment to himself, he enjoys cheering on the K-State Wildcats in football or basketball or watching hometown favorites, the Kansas City Chiefs or Royals.
